Vase-less Spending.

I love a big vase. You know the ones I am talking about. Those vintage white ceramic vases that you see all over Insta. These fabulous women, in their fabulous homes with their fabulous clothes and this humongous white vase in the background full of some sort of fresh cut branches from the forest in their backyard. I love them. I don't love the prices. I searched all over the internet. I found a few on the regular sites for under $200, but they weren't big enough and they were mass produced. They didn't make enough of a statement. I wanted one that was 2 feet tall and looked like it was crafted in some far away land. I wanted a vase that looked like it had a story to tell. I did find one. I saw the image before I saw the price. Gasp. $1750.00! One thousand seven hundred and fifty dollars. What in the world? I got in my car and drove straight to Home Goods. And there, almost like it was meant to happen, on the clearance shelf was a vase. Two and half feet tall, ceramic and .....TURQUOISE. It was $23. That's right, $23 with no additional zeros. I brought it home, pulled out some white acrylic paint that was nearing the end of its life and painted that vase. After 6 coats and a lot of dry time I had my very own vase. It was big, it was white, it looked old and it had a story. Maybe not a super exciting story, but one that I like to tell people. I am proud of her. She went from an unwanted turquoise oversized vase, to this....

My point is this. Be patient. Find things you love and if the price is not right, keep looking. Get creative. Don't be afraid to whip out some craft paint from your kids desk drawer and paint over something. Make it your own. This is your space, find joy in everything you own. I'm telling you, it is some kind of feeling to create something that looks like it walked off the pages of Architectural Digest for a fraction of the cost. So get out there and find that vase, or your version of a vase and make it what you want! Good luck!
