Bright Ideas

Who here has caught a glimpse of themselves in the Target dressing room mirrors? I am not talking about once you have your new outfit on. I am talking about as you are bent over pulling off the too tight non stretch jeans and you see yourself reflected in the mirror behind you. The lighting in that place is almost like it was created to really amplify imperfections. But, when you get home and are in the soft light of your bedroom, that same body that looked wrecked hours before no longer appears so terrible. IT'S THE LIGHTING! It makes all the difference.

Lighting our homes is so personal. What type of bulb to use? What wattage? What color lamp shades? Exposed bulbs or covered? Where should the lights go? Do the lamps need to match? The list goes on and on. And oh my gosh, have you seen some of the incredible lighting options out there right now? I am not going to lie. I have some pretty beautiful lighting in my home. It makes me happy and it is one place I am willing to splurge....in some places. In other areas of our house, I still want the lighting to look chic, but I am not prepared to break the bank to do it. Below are some great options for higher end pieces as well as lighting that looks like you spent a fortune but didn't.

  • These globe pendant lights are a beautiful addition to our daughters bathroom. They are adjustable, so we have them pulled almost flush with the ceiling on either side of her mirror. They add just the right amount of mid-century without going overboard. And the price!

  • Can we just look at this lamp for a minute? Its beautiful. Its pricey. But, it's beautiful. This is one of those statement pieces. If you can spend on any one lamp, this is the one. Promise.
